Ich weiß keine bessere Welt./I know no better world.
"I know no better world" is a photo book consisting of 24 photographs (taken between 1930-1970) from the photo album of my grandmother. Each photograph is accompanied by a text that includes memories told by my grandmother and fictional stories from my imagination. The book deals with my grandmothers' childhood memories in Prussia, her experiences during the war, the escape to Germany and the establishment of a new home. The book reflects her ambivalent character: humor and seriousness, truth and fiction, poetry and structure. Thus, "I know no better world" shows how our own present is shaped and constructed by the history of our ancestors and how photography functions as tool of collective memory. |
